Yesterday I posted about animal shapes, using silhouettes and today we're breaking it down to the basics: geometric shapes.

Much like the tangram project, I cut up a bunch of different shapes, squares, triangles etc. and invited the kids to make any sort of picture they wanted. It's always interesting to see what they'll come up with, but especially fun when they have to think more abstractly.

I've been sticking to the basics the last few weeks, allowing the kids to explore and create while learning about primary colors, patterns and now shapes. This week, we're going to learn about geometric shapes and shapes found in nature. 

Let's begin by creating collages using animal shapes. To really emphasize the shape, over the finer details, I chose to use silhouettes of animals versus real pictures.
