Summer Camp Week 1: Rain Sticks

Keeping with the "paper" theme for the week, we made these super cool rain sticks from cardboard tubes and decorative tape. Here's how...

Rain Sticks

materials:
mailing tube (or paper towel tube)
popcorn kernels/rice/dried beans
small nails (about 15-20 depending on size of the tube)
hammer
decorative tape
glue

get to work:
1. Hammer the nails into the tube, placing the nails in a random fashion along the tube. (You don't them too close together).
*THIS STEP SHOULD BE COMPLETED BY ADULTS OR UNDER ADULT SUPERVISION.

2. Most mailing tubes come with caps, if yours has caps, glue one cap onto the tube. If your tube didn't come with a cap, take masking tape/packaging tape and tape one end.

3. With one end sealed, pour one-two cups of kernels/rice/beans into the tube.

4. Seal the other end of the tube.

5. Begin decorating the tube with the decorative tape. (Or decorate however you'd like).

6. If your tube didn't have caps, take two small squares of cloth and wrap it over each end. Secure the cloth with rubber bands.
