Sandpaper Starfish

Do you still have that sandpaper left over from making sandpaper iron-ons? Well good. Here's what you can do with it...

materials:
sandpaper
crayons
scissors

get to work:
1. Place the sandpaper rough side down on the table and draw the shape of your starfish on the
back. (You might want to print out a picture of a starfish to use as a guide).

2. Help your child cut out their starfish.

3. Now turn over the sandpaper and color on the rough side. (You might want to try putting the crayon, sans wrapper, on its side and rub, the color will be evenly distributed across the starfish).

If you're worried about the paper tearing, color it first and then cut out the starfish shape.

Max has been into starfish ever since we visited the Monterey Bay Aquarium. If he could read, he'd have corrected me in saying that it's really a "sea star!" Good thing he can't read yet!
