squish paintings

Squishy creations without the mess.

materials:

Tempera Paint/Finger Paint
Wax Paper
Tape
Paper (preferably something like card stock)

get to work:

1. Begin by placing a large sheet of the wax paper on the table.
2. Help the child squirt a few different paint colors onto the wax paper.
3. Fold over the wax paper and show them how to squish (this is what my son calls it - hence the name) the paint around.
4. Unfold the wax paper.
5. Place the card stock on top of the piece, press down firmly and gently remove. Try your best to pull the paper directly up from the wax paper so as not to smudge the painting.
6. After you've preserved the piece on the card stock you can then place another piece of wax paper over the piece and let it dry. Once dry you can hang it as a suncatcher!

note:

It's your choice to do step 5 or 6. However, I recommend step 5 if you want to do step 6 simply because children tend to put way too much paint on the original piece of wax paper. By placing the card stock over the piece you're absorbing some of that paint and making it easier for the piece to dry in step 6.

Max making his squish painting.
A perfectly clean project for a 2yr old who likes to get messy!

All done and still clean!
