Wax paper hearts

Another easy, early Valentine's Day craft. You can find cellophane at most stores, especially right now and it's cheap! I recommend stocking up and putting the extra with any other miscellaneous art supplies.

ages: 3 & up

materials:

red cellophane
scissors
wax paper
iron
flat surface

get to work:

1. Working on a flat surface, tear off a large square of wax paper. Set aside.

2. Cut a square off of the cellophane and cut or tear it into pieces.

3. Take the cellophane pieces and form a heart shape on half of the wax paper.

4. Fold the wax paper over the heart.

5. Adults only - heat the iron (between low-med heat). Then gently iron the wax paper, moving back and forth over the piece for about 3 seconds. Stop, check the piece and if it's not quite sealed, iron it for another 2 seconds. *Make sure not to over iron, the cellophane will melt and harden.

6. Trim around heart, leaving about a 1/4" between the cellophane and the paper.

7. Display your heart in the kitchen window!

alternative:

1. Lay out the cellophane on the wax paper in a square shape.

2. Repeat steps 4-5

3. Cut out a heart shape (or any shape), this time from the cellophane center.

4. Peel off the wax paper and you have a cool waxy heart that you can add to cards, pictures etc.
