What age do you think children should be introduced to fine film? Before I met my husband I was not interested in anything artsy when it came to movies. Now, we're working our way through the Criterion Collection together and I'm loving (almost) every minute of it.
The other night we let Max join us for The Red Balloon and he was entranced! It was so interesting to watch him empathize with the balloon. Unfortunately the ending doesn't turn out so well for the balloon, as you can imagine, but the final scenes are so beautiful and childlike that all hope is restored. When he woke up the next morning he found a red balloon that we had been playing with earlier that week and I over heard him talking to it. It was so sweet!
So what do you think? Are there any really wonderful movies that you can introduce to a child at a young age? Or do you think TV and movies in general should be saved for when they're older?
