origami advent calendar

Over the break I made advent calendars for my nieces. I had a hard time deciding what style of calendar I wanted to make. Some are very pretty, but too complicated for children to make, others are simple, but not quite decorative enough for the holiday. Ultimately I decided on an origami one, simple enough for an older child (say 7 years old) to make and colorful/festive enough to add to your holiday decor.

materials:

25 pieces origami paper
string
miniature clothespins/paperclips
scissors

get to work:

 Getting started

1. Place paper decorative side down.

2. Fold one corner up to meet the opposite corner. This should make a triangle.

3. Open the paper.

4. Fold the tip of one end in towards the middle, making a small triangle on half of the paper. Repeat this step with the opposite end.

5. Fold the paper in half along the crease.

6. Take one side of the paper and fold it inward, again making a triangle.

7. Repeat step 6 with opposite side.

8. Turn the piece over. Fold in half. Open.

Finishing the cup

1. Pinch the middle of the cup or pull the two back pieces towards each other.

2. Fold the pointed edges over.

3. Pull the pointed edges back up and tuck them inside the back part of the cup.

4. Finished. You can now number the cup, place a piece of candy inside and hang it up!
