We love face paint. It's awesome. The problem is, we don't always have it handy. So this weekend I decided to test out a few DIY face paint recipes and give you a quick review. I found two that seemed simple, both with basic ingredients most people would have in their home (lotion, baby powder etc).
Here we go...
Face Paint #1 - Washable Tempera with Lotion
materials:
washable tempera paint (crayola works well)
lotion (free of scents or dyes)
q-tips, paint brushes
small cup
get to work:
1. Add about 1 tbs. of paint to the cup.
2. Add about 1 tbs. of lotion to the paint and mix.
3. Paint!
review:
I really liked this recipe. It was so simple and the paint didn't rub off. (Once Max started rubbing his nose, I saw the paint come off, but otherwise it did not get on his clothes or smudge.) The best part about this method - it's simple and the color is vibrant and if it does get on your clothes it can easily be washed off. The downside - it doesn't last as long as store bought face paint.
Face Paint # 2 - Baby Powder and Lotion
materials:
1 tbs baby powder (corn starch works too)
1/2 -1 tbs lotion (free of scents or dyes)
food coloring
small cup
q-tips, paint brushes
get to work:
1. Pour the lotion into the cup.
2. Add a few drops of food coloring.
3. Mix.
4. Add the baby powder.
5. Mix and get painting.
review:
This one wasn't as simple as the first (had a few lumps in the mixture), but was still pretty fun. The cool thing about this method is that it dries pretty fast (as long as you don't use too much paint) and stays on pretty well. The downside - the food coloring stains your face slightly, not a lot, but enough that it takes some good scrubbing to get off.
