straw rockets

We've gone rocket crazy over here. Simple and quick, these straw rockets are ideal for some 2 - 4 yr. old fun! (Correction 2-100yr. old fun).

You've probably seen these posted somewhere, they're fairly easy to make and fun for the summer, heck they're fun when it's freezing outside and you're stuck in the house.

materials:

printer paper/newspaper (any lightweight paper really)
markers/crayons
bendable straws
glue or tape

get to work:

1. Cut your paper into strips. I cut mine into 2inch x 6inch strips.
2. Decorate. Hint: if you want something to show up on the front of your rocket, draw it closer to the edge of the strip of paper, this way when you roll it up, it should be center.
3. Roll up the paper. You can use a pencil or the straw itself to help roll up the paper.
4. Glue or tape the paper making sure there are no holes for the air to escape. If you use glue, only put glue on one edge of the paper so that when you roll it up, it seals.
5. Fold the tip of the of your rocket and glue/tape it down. (Tape works best here).
6. Put your rocket on your straw and blow!
7. Find the rocket that has now flown behind the couch and start over again.

p.s.

A very cool rocket project for older kids.
