Summer Camp Week 5: Superheroes

Oh the superhero mask, a quintessential part of the superhero identity. Most superheroes, but not all (think Superman whose simple removal of glasses is enough to make him unidentifiable), wear masks. Masks are great for adding an air of mystery to a superhero's person, they're also good for helping a child, playing dress up, get into character.

There are multiple ways one can make a mask, but I have two favorite methods that are simple and easy. I'll share one with you today - this one's for the wee ones.

Superhero Masks

materials:
foam craft "paper" (You can find this at Target or Michael's)
scissors
glue
pipe cleaners or string

get to work:
1. Print out and cut out the template for the mask of your child's choice.

2. Help them place the mask template over the foam and cut out a foam mask in the shape of the template. (Younger ones might need help cutting out the eye holes)

3.  Now you can help them cut out lightening bolts, diamonds, etc. from other pieces of foam paper and glue them onto their mask.

4. I like to secure the mask on with pipe cleaners because it's easy to poke through the foam and is easily adjustable, so multiple kids can use it. You can also secure it on using a string and a hole punch.

5. Next - start thinking about other costume accouterments!
