Summer Camp Week 5: Superheroes!

Yesterday's post was the superhero mask "how to" for little ones. Today's post is for the older kids (5 and up). This is still pretty simple, but older kids can make it as challenging as they'd like by adorning their mask in various ways. Check it out...

Superhero Masks

materials:

felt
scissors
mask template
glue (hot glue for older kids)
buttons, foam, fabric paint
old t-shirt/string

get to work:
1. Much like yesterday's mask, begin by printing out a mask template and use that to help you cut out a mask from the felt.

2. Next decorate the mask using hot glue, foam, fabric paint, buttons, foil, feathers, pipe cleaners etc. (My suggestion is to have out a few different odds and ends, place them in the middle of the table and let the kids decide what they'd like to put on their mask).

3. When you're ready to try on your mask, cut a long strip from an old t-shirt, you can make this anywhere between 2 inches - 1/2 inch wide.

4.For a thinner tie stretch the fabric out and then, using scissors, make a small hole on each side of the mask. Slide the stretched fabric through the holes and tie it around your head. For a thicker tie, gently stretch the fabric, don't tug too hard, just pull it enough so that it wont fray. Then attach it to the mask.

*I like to use t-shirts instead of string because it's often easier to tie and untie and usually doesn't get stuck in people's hair as a thinner string might. That being said if you want to use string, go for it!

10 points for anyone who can identify which superhero stars in the comic above!
