This one came to me in a dream. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? I'm not sure. What I do know is that I went to bed thinking about how everything is vampires now and it feels like we've forgotten about mummies and Frankenstein's monster (yeah I said it, not "Frankenstein" - his monster).Max has recently become very interested in finger puppets, which I've also been thinking about lately, as I've been trying to figure out how to turn finger puppets into a cool project. And that's how we ended up here - finger puppet monsters.
Hope you don't mind destroying your gloves. It's not that cold out yet right? There is still time to buy more.
ps
If you make these, please send me a photo! I'd love to see all the various creations you invent!
materials:
Mummy:
tissue paper/cheese cloth or any thin white material cut into strips
liquid glue
glue stick
buttons
marker
mitten
Frankenstein's monster:
scissors
liquid glue
felt
glue stick
mitten
Dracula:
acrylic paint/tempera paint (red, white, black)
fine point paint brushes
mitten
scissors
get to work:
1. Take your mitten and snip off one finger at the base.2. Place the finger on the glue stick (this will help keep it's shape, while you work on it).
3. Begin working on your monster.
- Mummy: Dab liquid glue on the mitten finger and begin wrapping the cloth/paper strips around the finger. Continue until you've covered the entire thing.
- Frankenstein's monster: (This project is best for children ages 4 and up). Cut out felt clothing and monster's face. Glue the clothing onto the monster and decorate with fabric marker or permanent marker.
- Dracula: (This project is best suited for children 4 and up). Taking the fine point paint brush, paint the the face of Dracula white and his cloak his black. Use some red to make the mouth and dab on some red for blood, if you'd like.
4. Allow the projects to dry while still on the glue stick.
i want it now:
If you want it to dry faster, try using a hot glue gun. This one obviously requires adult aid and supervision. Please use caution when using a hot glue gun around children (or yourself, those suckers hurt!).
Oh that toddler smile! What happened to the sweet baby smile?
