happy fall!

I almost forgot, Happy Fall! We started our Fall off with apple picking at a nearby farm and last night Max got a pumpkin from the grocery store (we'll hit the pumpkin patch next month). He carried it all the way home (it was a tiny one) singing "we just got a pumpkin! we just got a pumpkin!" It was very sweet.

So in honor of all things autumnal and as a way to integrate a little seasonal craft into our shapes week, I came up with a leaf rubbings banner.

 materials:

paper
scissors
string
crayons
leaves
glue

get to work:

1. Fold the paper in half and cut it into a triangle shape. When you open it up it should look like a diamond.

2. Place the leaf inside the folded paper and close it. (You may want to tape down the leaf to keep it still).

3. Take a crayon and rub it along the paper exposing the leaf patter underneath.

4. Turn the paper over and do the other side.

5. Take the folded paper and hang it over your string, you can now glue the folded paper together to keep it in place.

6. Repeat with other colors, leaf types and paper!

alternative:
Older kids might enjoy painting their leaf and pressing it to the top of the paper.
