molecular necklaces

In honor of the East Bay Mini-Maker Faire that's coming in October (yes, I know October is kinda far away, but I was inspired), I started making science oriented crafts. Here are some H2O necklaces made from beads and straw.

 materials:

two long pieces of string
3 colored beads (I chose red for oxygen and blue for hydrogen)
2 small plastic straw pieces

get to work:

1. First run both pieces of string through the red bead.
2. Tie a knot to both sides of the bead. Separate the strings, as shown above, one will go around your neck and the other will hold the remaining beads and straw pieces.
3. Place one straw and one blue bead on each side of the red bead.
4. You'll tie a knot at the end of each of the blue beads, but before you do, position the straw so that it's at an angle, then tie the string to keep it in place.
5. Wear your necklace with pride.

alternatives:
You can choose a different molecule if you'd like. Dopamine is one of my favorites, I love the little antennae at the top!
