How to: Eric Carle Collages

If you can't catch Eric Carle on display at the Montclair Museum, have no fear! You can still make some great Eric Carle inspired collages, using the artist's very own techniques.

In the spirit of Halloween - we made Eric Carle ghosts!

Check it out...

ERIC CARLE COLLAGE CREATIONS

gather
: tissue paper
: newspaper
: acrylic paint (you can try watercolor, but make sure you don't saturate the paper)
: paint brush
: cup of water (for rinsing your brush)
: optional: bubble wrap, toy cars, sponge, plastic fork etc. (anything to add texture)
: scissors
: glue
: white piece of paper

ask
: Do you think it will be hard or easy to make a creation like Eric Carle does?
: Look at the materials, how do you think he makes his artwork look like it does?
: What do you like about Eric Carle's work?/Which creation is your favorite of his?

make
: Lay out the tissue paper on some newspaper and choose one color to paint the entire piece of paper. You can use a broad paintbrush or a sponge and then use the cars and bubble wrap to add texture by running them over the paint.
: Once you've covered the whole page, put it aside and let it dry.
: Repeat the first step a few more times using a different color of paint every time.
: Once all the pieces are dry, draw the outline of your shapes onto the tissue paper with a pencil or marker.
:Then cut out each individual part for the animal from the different colors of tissue paper.
:Assemble and glue the pieces on the white paper or assemble and hang your ghosts up in the windows to scare the neighbors!
