DIY Constellations

This weekend my husband surprised me with a trip to the Russian River for our anniversary. The whole trip was absolutely wonderful, but I think my favorite part was laying out under the redwoods and staring up at the stars. Inspired, I came home and made a few "constellations" of my own for Max (I would have let him help, but we he was asleep when the idea came to me).

materials:
dark paper
pencil/white crayon
thumb tack/sharpened pencil
cork board/carpet
flashlight

get to work:
1. Decide on the shape you want. Draw that shape on the paper. (Here are some simple constellations to trace).

2. Poke holes along the shape you drew with the thumb tack. (This works best if the paper is placed on a carpet or cork board). Make sure not to get the holes too close together.

3. Turn off the lights. Hold the finished product up with a flashlight shining behind it.
