egg carton airplanes

This project is adapted from one found at Instructables. I love the idea of making your own airplane at home, but find that cardboard can be too difficult for children to cut. Egg cartons are durable and easy to cut and you most likely have them readily available.

Happy flying!

materials:

marker
egg carton (just the top)
scissors
key ring

get to work:
1. Begin by cutting the sides of the egg carton so that it can lay out flat.

2. Help your child draw the body and parts of the airplane.

3. Cut out the shapes. (Egg cartons are great for cutting - most children adept at using scissors will have no problem).

4. Help your child cut the slits in the airplane body for the wings and stabilizer. (You may want to use a knife in which case this part should be done by adults only).

5. Put the wings and stabilizer on the plane.

6. Add a key ring or some sort of weight to the nose of the plane. (You might also want to try using tape and a small washer.)

7. Fly!
