runaway latkes!

Last week I suggested starting your Hanukkah off with the book, The Runaway Latkes, and today we're making our own runaway latkes! I love linking art with literature. It gives the kids a chance to expand upon some of their favorite stories and let their imaginations run wild.

materials:

circles cut from brown paper (paper bags work fine)
glue
crayons/markers
paper (for backing)

get to work:

1. Begin by retelling the story of the runaway latkes. Don't forget to sing "Big and round, crisp and brown, off we roll to see the town and you can't catch us!"

2. Give each child a brown circle and explain to them that this is their runaway latke. Ask them what their latke might look like.

3. Glue the latke to the extra piece of paper and begin to decorate.
