paper Christmas trees

Bring a little holiday cheer to your house with these simple paper trees. We made these this morning in about 10 minutes! Seriously, they're simple and easy and with a little help from an adult, even a two year old can help whip these up!

Origami Paper Tree

materials:
origami paper (or paper cut into squares)
scissors

get to work:

1. Begin by preparing the squares. Cut about 5 squares, decreasing in size. (I started with the standard origami squared paper and used that as a template to cut down, but you could start with a larger piece for a larger tree.)

2. Fold the pieces into a paper cup. (Instructions here.)

3. Once complete, stack the cups and bend them in the middle a bit so that they stand up.

Paper Tree Cut Out

materials:
multi-colored paper (card stock or heavier paper works best)
scissors

get to work:

1. Cut out three equal sized trees from the paper. (You might want to draw a tree first to help the child cut out the shape.)

2. Make a slit down the middle of one tree, starting at the top. Do not cut all the way through, leave about 1" - 1/2" of the paper connected at the bottom.

3. Make a slit up the middle of the other two trees starting at the bottom. Do not cut all the way through, again, leave about 1"-1/2" of the paper connected at the top.

4. Slide the tree made in step 2 into one of the trees made in step 3.

5. Slide the last tree onto the the other two pieces.

*for younger children, use only two pieces of paper - it's much easier
