Cool crafts can still come from a combo of diy and store bought items. This morning Max and I played around with some leaf printing and model magic. We're going to do this craft at school today too! It's simple, and the product is pretty cool. Check it out!
materials:
model magic (pref. white)
leaves (I used basil from our garden, you'll want to use a leaf that's still green)
paint
paper towel/paper
cotton swab or paint brush or your finger
skewer or pencil
round cookie cutter or cup
string
get to work:
1. Roll out the model magic so that it's flat. Use the cookie cutter to cut it into a circle.

2. Place the cut model magic onto a paper towel or piece of paper that you folded in half and opened.
3. Lightly apply paint to your leaf. (You can use a paint brush, cotton swab or your finger if you aren't afraid of getting messy).
4. Gently press the leaf onto the model magic. (This is a good time to show children how to do something "lightly." You might want to show them by pressing on their hand or wrist so that they understand how gentle they need to be).
5. Fold the paper over and lightly rub the paper where the leaf is. (You obviously don't have to use the paper in this way, however I found Max was gentler when we tried it this way.)
6. Open the paper and remove the leaf. Using the skewer poke a hold in the top of the circle, so that you may hang it later.
7. Allow your finished products to dry over night and once dry, hang the piece with string.
8. As an extra piece you can use glitter glue or a spray sealant on the piece once it's dry. This will help it keep longer and make it nice and shiny.
Proof that a 2 year old can do this project, here is the one Max made.
We displayed our finished products throughout the house, but I think they'd also be just as lovely on a tree outside. (As long as your climate isn't too wet).
